My Origin Story:
My name is Matthew Robert Blake and I was born on March 21st, 2000, in Freehold, New Jersey. When I was three years old, my family and I moved to Crystal Lake, Illinois, where I would grow up and discover a distinct passion for the arts.
Growing up, I was always listening to music on either my father’s stereo, or my very own portable CD player which, at the time, would have been occupied exclusively by AC/DC’s Back in Black, or Highway to Hell. At the age of 10, I started taking guitar lessons and have been playing ever since.
For as long as I can remember, there has been a camera in my life. Between my father’s love for amateur photography and my young-self’s fascination with drugstore disposable cameras, taking pictures has always been something I think of as a big part of my life.
At age 14, I started my freshman year at Prairie Ridge High School. Throughout my time there, I would discover a real love for acting and singing. I became involved in the school’s top curricular and extracurricular choirs and performed lead rolls in their plays and musicals.
Fast Forward to Today…
Currently, I am a senior at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. Specifically, I am a student of the School of Journalism and Mass Communication where I am pursuing a degree in Digital Media Production.
In addition to my course work, I am also a member of Drake University’s Drake Coir and Chamber Choir under the direction of Eric Barnum. I also currently serve as the Social Chairman of the Iowa Delta chapter of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. In the past, I have also served as the manager of the fraternity’s social media accounts.
I currently live in Des Moines and work part time as an assistant producer at xBK Live, a locally owned, independent music venue. My work consists mainly of lighting and sound design, but I am often learning from industry professionals about a myriad of aspects of the music industry.
